What we collect
- Your account: nickname (everyone sees it), real name and email (only MKC sees them), and your password (stored scrambled, never readable).
- What you post: topics, replies, pictures, polls, likes, follows, reports and private chats.
- Visits: visit counts, what was viewed, and your internet (IP) address, so we can count visitors and stop abuse.
- Downloading the app: downloading the MKC Android app requires an MKC account with your email. We note which account downloaded it and when.
- The app: the MKC app checks in with the site in the background (app version, notification and battery settings, phone model) so notifications work.
- Notifications: if you turn them on in a browser, the browser's notification address, linked to your account if you are logged in.
Why
To run the site and the app, to send the notifications you asked for, and to keep MKC kosher and safe.
Private chats
Private chats are not secret from MKC. MKC can read them to keep MKC kosher and safe, as the 🛡 notice in every private chat says.
What we don't do
We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and MKC has no advertising or tracking scripts.
Cookies and phone storage
MKC uses a cookie to keep you logged in, and your phone's or browser's storage to remember settings (like where you stopped in the news).
Deleting your account
Go to ☰ → My profile → Delete my account, or email us and we'll do it for you.
Children
MKC accounts are for people 13 and older. If we learn that a child under 13 made an account, we delete it.
